Buzzards Bay: Captain Dave Altrich AltrichAnglers.com
This week we spent time fishing Mount Hope Bay, The Sakonnet River, & Newport RI as well as Buzzards Bay. The entire week was lights out fishing which included large schools of Bass & Blues. Most days I barley motored out of the marina and was greeted with acre sized schools of blues to 7lbs.
The large schools of Blues stayed on the surface for over 5 hours Most days and made for a great day of fishing with family, friends, and clients.
We had many mornings with keeper sized Bass early morning in the shallows on darters and other sub surface plugs around the boulder fields.
In addition to Bass & Blues we found solid Black Sea Bass, Scup, and Tog fishing down river on Brenton Reef. The fall run is in full swing :).
I’m still waiting to see the inshore Bones & Albies in good numbers but there are a few around.

The bay over the passed week has been slow. Sandy neck had some big blue fish in deep water. Blues up to 10 pounds were being caught. Backside of ptown holding keeper bass and blue fish. Stellwagen has been holding tuna all season long. I was lucky enough this week to bring home a 62” to the table.

Albies are in steep, plenty of them around. They are not easy to catch but when you do they are exciting to reel in. Our preferred lure of choice is the Daddy Mac 1 ounce pink squid long casting lure while we use either a 7' Moderate action Salt Series Duckett Rod or the 7'-6" Inshore fast action Duckett rod.
Bonito from the Hooter into the sound, and plenty of bluefish are around.
Still seeing Sea Bass and Fluke being caught throughout Lucas shoals, just have to find their hiding spots but they are around.
